Course Contents
Basic physics of particle acceleration, electrostatic and cyclic acceleration, relativistic particle dynamics, X-ray devices, Van de Graff generators, cyclotrons, betatrons, microtrons, synchrotrons, LINACs, teletherapy devices and radioactive sources.
What you'll learn
You will learn the basic principles of accelerating particles via electromagnetic fields, the operating principles of various accelerator machines, the different particles used and the different energies they are accelerated to, what kind of therapies these machines are used in.
About the Instructor
Dr. Kirit Makwana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and specializes in plasma physics, the study of charged particles and electromagnetic fields that dominate nearly 99% of the visible universe.
